Maurice Garmatter worked for Lima Union
Maurice Dwain Garmatter, 91, passed away October 14, 2021 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. Maurice was born July 23, 1930 in Bluffton to the late Gideon and Mabel (Burkholder) Garmatter. On August 20, 1951 he married Eileen Basinger Garmatter.
Maurice was a 1948 graduate of Bluffton High School and served with the United States Air Force in Germany. He retired from construction working for both the Lima Union and as a self-employed construction worker. After retirement he worked for Tri-State Expediting. Maurice was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. He loved his family and enjoyed baking cookies and breads for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maurice loved studying the word of God and spreading that word.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Eileen Garmatter of Bluffton; five children, Jeff (Cynthia) Garmatter of Gilboa, Robert (Rosanne) Garmatter of Lima, Greg (Sandra) Garmatter of Omaha, Nebraska, Julie (Ron) Steiner of Lima, Amy (Fred) Garrett of Louise, Texas; ten grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Richards, Morgan (Chris) Rood, Jennifer Garmatter, Jordan Garmatter, Jason Garmatter, Jessica (Casey) Geren, Joel (Krista) Steiner, Joshua (Heidi) Steiner, Ana Garrett and Kate Garrett; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane Salaska of Oklahoma, Rachel Radabaugh of Columbus Grove and a sister-in-law, Sandy Garmatter of Bluffton.
Maurice was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Victoria Garmatter and two brothers, Roger Garmatter and Leland Garmatter.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Pastor Jim King officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer Mennonite Church Mission Fund.
