Bluffton to take on Anderson in HCAC Tournament
When Bluffton University took down Manchester University 1-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 27, the 2021 Beavers netted their first-ever Heartland Conference Men's Soccer Tournament berth. Bluffton wrapped up its regular season with an 8-7 mark which is the most wins in a season since 2008. The four wins (4-5) in conference play also equaled the 2008 squad for the most-ever wins in the Heartland Conference.
As the number 6 seed, Bluffton will travel to number three 3 seed Anderson University on Saturday, Oct. 30, for a 2 p.m. start. The Bluffton-Anderson winner earns a ticket to number 2 seed Hanover College on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
Bluffton will have two of the top six scorers in the Heartland Conference on its side when the Beavers head to AU. Senior Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) is 2nd in the HCAC with 12 goals despite missing four matches. Sophomore wingman Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold), who knocked in the game winner at Manchester on Wednesday, is tied for 5th with nine goals this season. Taynor's 2.18 points per match is tops in the conference
Taynor and freshman keeper Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) have both been recipients of HCAC Player of the Week awards in 2021. Velasco-Urbina is 3rd in the conference with a 1.48 goals against average and he has been sensational with four shutouts this season.
