Pirate girls knocked out by Eagles in district soccer final
The Bluffton High School girls soccer team lost at home to top-seeded Liberty-Benton 3-0 in a defensive Div. III district final match Saturday, October 30.
The Pirate girls finished with a stellar 14-4-1 record after the season-ending defeat.
L-B improved to 13-4-2 with the victory behind two goals from Brooke Deter.
The Eagle girls scored first in the 21st minute on a goal by Kylie Recker. The match stayed 1-0 past halftime when Deter tallied a goal in the 50th minute to provide L-B with a 2-0 lead.
Deter then netted an insurance goal in the 79th minute to put the game out of reach.
The Pirate offense was limited to six shots, one of which was on goal. The Lady Eagles got off 21 shots, nine of which were on target.
Bluffton junior keeper Julia Mehaffie made six saves in goal. The L-B goalkeeper stopped just one Pirate shot.
As the district champion, Liberty-Benton advances to the regional semifinals November 2 vs. Pemberville Eastwood, the champion from the Genoa district. Second-ranked Eastwood shut out Millbury Lake 2-0 in their district final Saturday.
