Veterans' Day programs in Bluffton
On November 11, 2021, Bluffton veterans visited the Bluffton schools to provide several Veterans’ Day programs. High schoolers, 4th grade students and kindergarteners learned about the service of local veterans, the history of Veterans’ Day and honoring the American flag.
More than a dozen members of Bluffton American Legion Post 382 took part in a program at Bluffton High School that included the National Anthem, Presentation of Colors, and a program about the experiences of Bluffton men and women who have served in the U.S. military. Commander Fred Rodabaugh showed the students photos of Bluffton veterans during active service; “most of whom you know,” he told the students.
Legion members Larry Core, Sam Reineke, and Tom Benroth visited Bluffton 4th grade classes to teach the students how to properly fold an American flag and other flag etiquette. The children were given flags to take home and homework of practicing flag folding.
Local Lifeflight helicopter pilot Aaron Antrim visited kindergarten classes, bringing along a basketful of family military mementos, toy helicopters, and dress caps (or covers) from his service in the Marines and Coast guard. His presentation included explaining what a veteran is, as well as asking and answering many questions.
American Legion members also visited Maple Crest and Mennonite Memorial Home.
