Mary Avon Sommers 1920-2010
Mary Avon Sommers, 90, of Pandora died at 12:50 a.m. Dec. 26, 2010 at Bluffton Hospital. She was born Feb. 21, 1920 in Pleasant Township, Putnam County, to Alvin and Avon Geiger Lugibihl. On Dec. 15, 1939, she married Donavin Sommers and he preceded her in death on May 1, 1997.
Mrs. Sommers was a homemaker. She had worked at the Pandora-Gilboa school cafeteria, Welty-Schumacher Egg Co., Pandora, and the Imperial Discount Grocery, Bluffton.
She was a member of the Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton, and a graduate of Pandora High School.
Survivors include four daughters, Sandra Cherry of Pandora, Jeanne (Michael) Cramer of Rawson, Beverly (Darrell) Elkins of Continental, Cathy (Ron) Frazer of Broomfield, Colo., a son John (Lynn) Sommers of Hartford, S.D., 15 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 5 step-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Virginia Sommers of Pandora, two sisters, Eunice Thompson of Findlay, Gladys Bolander of Monroe, Wash., and a brother, Oliver (Pat) Lugibihl of Bluffton. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Sommers and two brothers, Gordon and Roy Lugibihl.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Rev. Dick Potter will officiate. Burial will be in Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton. Memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Mennonite Church or American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be expressed at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
