Scouting for Food tally
Bluffton Boy Scout Troop 256 was out (again) on Saturday, March 12, for a second weekend covering the entire Village of Bluffton for the Scouting for Food program. The previous weekend, scouts left door hangers notifying residents of the food drive; this past weekend, they picked up the donated items for the Bluffton Food pantry.
Troop leader Victoria Goddard reports: "The generous folks of Bluffton donated over 900 items to the local Bluffton Food Pantry. The Scouts picked up and sorted the donated items.
"The folks at the Food Pantry were very happy with the large number of premium items: 38 cans of beef and chicken, and 72 cans of tuna, as well as laundry detergent and personal hygiene items."
While the scouts were working at the Bluffton Food Pantry, volunteer donations coordinator Ed Yeager gave them a tour of the facility and explained both how the Pantry came to its current location and how it works to help the residents of Bluffton.
The location, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 223 College St., has grown over the years from a remodeled coal room to include bright distribution and storage spaces.
Residents of the Bluffton Exempted Village School district can pick up food and personal care items on the third Saturday from 9-11 a.m. and following Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. each month.
