Hiram holds off Bluffton, 5-3

It was the Hiram College Terriers who came away with a 5-3 win over Bluffton University baseball on a beautiful Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Playing at home, Bluffton fell to 9-14 on the season, while Hiram improved to 9-13.
The Terriers got on the board first in the top of the second inning, scoring three runs on four hits. Fairbanks scored via a fielder's choice before two singles plated both Giesken and Mallernee. Hiram added one more in the top of the third when Houdeshell scored on a wild pitch.
Bluffton was able to scratch one across in the bottom of the fourth frame on a Nick Diana (Batavia/West Clermont) hit-by-pitch, but the good guys left the bases loaded for the second time in four innings.
Diana then sent one sailing over the fence in the bottom of the sixth for his first career home run, plating Wilson and pulling Bluffton within one at 4-3. However, that was all the Beavers could muster as the bats fell silent and Hiram scored one more in the top of the ninth on an RBI single which plated Giesken.
Jack Towell (Batavia/West Clermont) paced the Beavers with three hits. Reigning HCAC Pitcher of the Week Andrew Collinsworth (Westerville/Westerville South) went two innings, giving up three runs on four hits. He was pegged with the loss and dropped to 1-2 on the year.
Stephen Javorek got the win for Hiram as he improved to 4-2 on the year.
Bluffton jumps right back into action on Wednesday, April 13, when the Beavers travel to Wittenberg University for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Tigers.
