Convocation speaker: Bluffton University trustee Ricks
Bethny Ricks, a speaker, author and leadership expert, will be the featured speaker at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30 in Yoder Recital Hall as Bluffton University welcomes the class of 2026 during its Opening Convocation.
Ricks will share “Mirror, Mirror,” which provides an unconventional perspective on life, self-acceptance and the persistent pursuit of happiness, especially when intentions collide with the unpredictable parts of life.
A 2006 Bluffton graduate and member of Bluffton’s Board of Trustees, Ricks is an award-winning former executive who led multiple billion-dollar business transformations over 18 years. She is now an active board member, sought-after speaker, storyteller and people strategist.
During the ceremony, faculty wearing academic regalia will welcome first-year and transfer students. The name of each new student will be called with professors presenting honor covenants signed by each student signifying their commitment to Bluffton’s honor code.
“As we start a new year, we welcome each new Bluffton student into our academic community. It is our way of communicating that each student plays an essential role in making Bluffton a community of engaged learners,” said Dr. Lamar Nisly, vice president and dean of academic affairs.
