Unbeaten Pirate girls soccer edges VB

The Bluffton High School girls soccer team edged visiting Van Buren 2-1 in a non-conference match Thursday evening, September 1.
The win upped the Pirate record to 4-0, while VB fell to 4-2 with the defeat.
Aubrey Burkholder netted the first goal unassisted in the 25th minute. Sami Scoles extended the lead to 2-0 in the 39th minute with a goal off a feed from Karson Hauenstein.
The Black Knights pulled within 2-1 on an Anna Durliat goal in the 53rd minute. But the Pirate defense held VB scoreless over the last 27 minutes to preserve the victory.
The Pirate girls got off nine shots, six of which were on goal. All six of the Knight shots were on goal. Pirate keeper Julia Mehaffie made five saves in goal, while VB keeper Sydney Sherick was credited with four stops.
Bluffton hosts Coldwater (3-2) Saturday night in a non-league battle.
