Jenera annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sept. 18
Members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, will observe the annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sunday, September 18. The services, at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m., will give praise to the Lord for saving the lives of passengers on the “Famous Dove” when it was shipwrecked off the east coast of the United States on September 17, 1831. Many of the passengers coming from Germany were the founders of Trinity and many fourth through seventh generation descendants are members today.
During a terrible storm, the passengers prayed and sang hymns. The next morning, they saw that they were just off the coast of Virginia. They left the wrecked ship and safely reached land. They promised to observe September 17 in thanks to God, to the third and fourth generations, this being the 191th year.
The account of the Shipwreck will be read during the service and the Choir will sing “When Peace Like a River.” Sunday School and Bible Classes for all ages will be held at 9:20 AM and the service can be found at www.tlcjenera.org The 8:00 a.m. service is livestreamed and archived.
The church is handicapped accessible. For more information, call 419-326-4685. Everyone is welcome.
