Bluffton women's soccer vs. Bethany
The Bluffton University women's soccer team wrapped up non-conference play with a 2-1 loss to Bethany College on Saturday, Sept. 24. The Beavers fell to 1-5-1, while the Bison improved to 6-1-2.
Just over a minute into the match, the Bison took an early 1-0 lead, but Bluffton's Nina McGinn (Marion/Harding) found the back of the net, assisted by Emma White (St. Marys/Memorial), in minute 28 to tie the score 1-1 at the half.
After a quiet start to the second half, the Bison took a 2-1 lead with just over 22 minutes to play. A strong defensive presence for Bethany led to a silent offensive half for the Beavers and the 2-1 victory for the visitors.
Bluffton keeper Brielle Collier (Anna) tallied two saves in the loss, compared to Bethany's single stop. The Beavers outshot the Bison, 10-9, but only placed two on frame, compared to four for the opposition. The visitors forced one more corner kick (6-5) and were whistled for three fewer fouls (11-8).
The Beavers are back in action when they open conference play at home against Transylvania University on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the Sears Complex.
