Bluffton U men's soccer Transylvania recap
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Bluffton University men's soccer team opened Heartland Conference play with a 2-0 loss at Transylvania on Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Heartland Conference opener for both squads. The Beavers fell to 2-4-3 overall (0-1 HCAC), while the Pioneers improved to 4-2-3 (1-0 HCAC).
It was a quiet first half for both teams as the match went into the break scoreless. Transy found the back of the net in minute 55 to take a 1-0 lead and they hit paydirt again in minute 79 to secure the 2-0 shutout.
Bluffton keeper Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, KY/Henry Clay) tallied 11 saves in the loss, compared to one for Transy. The Beavers managed just three shots, with one on goal, compared to 21 from the Pioneers with 13 on goal. The Pioneers forced four more corner kicks (7-3) and were whistled for two fewer fouls (12-10).
The men take the pitch again on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Indiana to face off against the Franklin College Grizzlies. Kick-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
