Maple Crest pie-baking contest held Feb. 11
Is pie baking something you enjoy? Do your family and friends beg for you to make pies? You may want to enter your favorite pie in the upcoming Maple Crest pie contest. The contest is held at Maple Crest.
The contest is Friday, Feb. 11. Judging begins at 4 p.m. There are three entry categories:
- Cream
- Fruit
- Nut pies
According to Julie Stratton of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, "We will accept pies from bakers who are considered professionals, which include restaurants, caterers, bakeries, grocery stores, as well as amateurs.
"Judging will be based on taste, appearance, and texture. The judges will be professional bakers. Cash prizes will be given in the different categories. The grand prize is $100 with cash prizes in the other categories."
Judging takes place in the Patio Room at Maple Crest. Contestants need to enter two pies of the same recipe. One pie will be for the judges to view and sample and the second pie will be for a silent auction.
A spaghetti supper takes place that evening from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $6 for a spaghetti dinner with breadsticks, salad, dessert, and a beverage.
The public will be able to taste test pies as well as bid on them in the silent auction. Highest bidder will take home a pie. All proceeds will go to the Maple Crest Memory Garden Project.
Pies must be entered by Wednesday, Feb. 9. Contact Julie Stratton at 419-369-4715 to enter. Maple Crest Senior Living Village is located at 700 Maple Crest Ct. (off Augsburger Rd) in Bluffton.
