CVS volunteer guardian information session, Nov. 16
Crime Victim Services will hold an information session on becoming a volunteer guardian in Allen County from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.
Volunteer guardians serve adults who are found to be incompetent of making important life decisions and who do not have an appropriate support person in their life to make such decisions. 70% of protected persons with a CVS Volunteer Guardian are survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault.
Volunteer guardianship is an opportunity to make a difference in the life of a vulnerable person who has no one in their lives appropriate for this role. CVS Staff support volunteers in day-to-day decision making for their protected person, including arrangements for support services, clothing, housing, medical care, and recreation.
A Miami University survey of Ohio Probate Courts reports that 74% of the courts desired volunteer guardians and 40% of current guardians were resigning. Allen County is experiencing these same issues.
