BHS swimmers finish second at inaugural Allen County Invite
Eleven meet records set
The Bluffton High School boys and girls swim team competed on Saturday, January 21 in the Allen County Invitational hosted by Bath High School at the Lima YMCA. The girls team finished in first with 453 points, ahead of Elida’s 447 points. The Lima Shawnee team finished in third place with 351 points.
The boys team finished third with 304 points. Shawnee boys won with 551 points, with Bath in second with 334 points.
Combined, the Bluffton Pirates finished second with 757 points. Shawnee finished in first with 902 points and finishing in third overall was Elida with 595 points.
Bluffton joined five other teams from Bath, Elida, Lima Central Catholic, Lima Shawnee and McComb. This was the first year for the Allen County meet.

Girls 200 yard medley relay:
Bluffton A Relay finished in second place with 34 points: Jenna Downey, Allison Diller, June Essinger, Izzy Stechschulte
Bluffton B Relay finished in fourth place with 30 points: Lillian Dagani, Makenna Mohr, Zoe Shank and Ella Armstrong
Boys 200 yard medley relay:
Bluffton A Relay finished in first place with 40 points: Jackson Bowlus, Riley Verb, Xavier Diller and Charles Wright and also holds the meet record for this event.
Girls 200 freestyle:
Izzy Stechschulte finished first with 20 points and holds the meet record for this event.
Lillian Dagani finished fourth with 15 points

Riley Verb finished first with 20 points and holds the meet record for this event.
Jacob Lehman finished third with 16 points
Girls 200 IM:
Allison Diller finished second with 17 points
Rory Youngpeter finished fourth with 15 points
Boys 200 IM:
CJ McCall finished third with 16 points
Girls 50 yard free:
Jenna Downey finished second with 17 points
Makenna Mohr finished fourth with 15 points
Zoe Shank finished 10th with 7 points
Lena Brown finished 11th with 6 points

Girls 100 backstroke:
Rory Youngpeter finished second with 17 points
Lillian Dagani finished fourth with 15 points
Lena Brown finished ninth with 9 points
Boys 100 backstroke:
Jackson Bowlus finished first with 20 points and holds the meet record for this event.
CJ McCall finished sixth with 13 points
Girls 100 breaststroke:
Allison Diller finished third with 16 points
Makenna Mohr finished fifth with 14 points
Boys 100 breaststroke:
Riley Verb finished first with 20 points and holds the meet record for this event
Girls 400 free relay:
Bluffton A finished first with 40 points: June Essinger, Rory Youngpeter, Zoe Shank, Ella Armstrong and holds the meet record for this event.
Boys 400 free relay:

Mixed 200 yard freestyle relay (a non-scored event for this meet)
Bluffton A finished first: Grady Schaublin, Izzy Stechshulte, Allison Diller and Riley Verb.
The Pirate swim team will compete Tuesday, January 24 in Defiance against the Ayersville Pilots. The team will then compete in their conference championships on Saturday, January 28 at Colonel Crawford High School in Crestline, Ohio.
