Pirate softball edged by Arcadia

Playing at home, the Bluffton softball team fell 5-4 to Arcadia on Tuesday evening, April 4.
The Pirates dropped to 2-3 after suffering their third straight non-league loss. The last two defeats have come by just one run apiece.
Bluffton led 4-2 after plating four runs in the third inning. Vanessa Cross hammered a three-run home run to highlight the inning.
Arcadia edged within a run with one score in the fifth. They then took the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth, and then hung on for the win.
The Pirates scored all four of their runs in the third frame.
Bluffton out-hit Arcadia, 7-4. The Pirates left six runners on base to just one stranded by the Redskins.
Lili Mundy slugged a home run and doubled for Arcadia. Courtney Burnett singled, scored a run and drove home one run.
Lauren Bassett drove in two runs with a double and a single to help lead the Pirate offense. Ashley Fleece, Olivia Hobensack and Olivia Matthews each hit a single and scored a run. All three players each stole a base, too.
Danielle Cross and Lauren Bassett added one single apiece for the Pirates. Dyllan Worcester walked twice and added a single.
Hannah Davis (2-3) pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and two earned runs in seven frames. She struck out seven and walked none in an efficient performance.
Bluffton committed three errors, while Arcadia was guilty of two miscues.
Bluffton visits local non-league foe LCC Thursday. The Pirates then travel to Liberty-Benton (1-3) for a doubleheader Saturday.
