BHS Volunteer Club raises funds to aid East Palestine community, plans Bluffton litter pick up
By Mackay Tuttle
At the start of the 2022-23 school year, Bluffton High School students set out to form a volunteer club as a way to give back and make positive change in the Bluffton community.
Volunteer Club is a great way for students to work together, gain leadership skills and help others. Members are encouraged to individually seek out opportunities in the community such as Bingo and nail painting with elders at Maple Crest or volunteering at the hospital.
As a club, members meet each month to share volunteer experiences and plan group volunteer activities. Community outreach and involvement is top priority for the club.
Thus far in 2023, Volunteer Club members made Valentine’s Day cards for the elders at Maple Crest and raised over $700, through a charity easter egg hunt, to aid those affected by the East Palestine train derailment.
In May, the Volunteer Club plans to do a litter pick up around Bluffton. For any questions, volunteer ideas, or information on how to get involved, email teacher Paul Utendorf at [email protected]
