Juneteenth Lima 2023 celebrations
Noon-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17
The Juneteenth Lima Committee and the Council for the Arts of Greater Lima will join the Sigma Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, the City of Lima Parks and Recreation Department to present Juneteenth Lima 2023. The day-long event is a commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States, a celebration of the joys of liberty, and an opportunity to educate the community about Black heritage, and promote positive cultural interaction.
This year’s celebration will take place Saturday, June 17, in the Downtown Lima Square, all under the theme “Celebrate Us”.
Saturday’s activities will run from noon to 6 p.m. to celebrate African American achievement and diversity in the Lima-Allen County region. During this event, the community and visitors will experience a wide variety of information, food, entertainment, and vendors from our community. From music entertainment to business exposure, kid's activities to a pop-up business destination, cultural art exhibits to health fairs, educational presentations to career opportunities, and more…
About Juneteenth:
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Juneteenth now celebrates African American freedom and achievement, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures.
