Scenes from the Sullivans, October 8 – November 4, 2023

ArtSpace/Lima is exhibiting the varied works from the estate of William and Mary Ann Sullivan. ‘Scenes from the Sullivans’ will be on display at ArtSpace through November 4, 2023.  William (Bill) and Mary Ann Sullivan were pillars in Lima’s art community for decades. 

Mary Ann was an Art History professor at Bluffton University where she earned several faculty awards,  including Study Center grants, the Sears Teaching Excellence Award, the Outstanding Educator Award  from the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, and the Bluffton Faculty Staff Service Award in  2009. In her honor, the campus named their annual literary essay competition after her. Well-known  for her knowledge of literature and art history, Mary Ann offered in-depth, illustrated lectures for her  courses and ArtSpace/Lima. She had the opportunity to conduct many study tours devoted to art and  art history with the organization. Her frequent lectures were a popular event at the ArtSpace Soup and Salad evenings.  

Bill dedicated over 40 years of service to the Ohio State University at Lima’s campus, where he worked  from 1971 to 2003. He continued to teach after his retirement through 2012. During these years, Bill  was promoted to associate professor and department coordinator for his specialization in Victorian  literature. Bill served on the Board of Trustees of the Council for the Arts of Greater Lima, the Board of  Trustees of WGTE/WGLE-FM (NPR), and the Allen-Lima Community Access Programming Advisory  Board. He was honored at the Arts Advocacy Luncheon in 2012 for his critical role in the arts  community. From 2008 to 2018, Bill served as the operations manager for ArtSpace/Lima. He created a  wide variety of programs for the exhibitions, including “A Labor of Love,” curated and dedicated to his  wife Mary Ann. 

The Sullivans collected treasures from around the world as they traveled. These treasures and artwork  from their ‘famous friends’ was recently donated to ArtSpace and will now be open for the public to see.  

The exhibit is free and open to the public.
