Pirate boys basketball claws Wildcats

The Bluffton High School boys basketball team used a big second quarter to pave the way for a 57-50 win at non-league foe Kenton Saturday night, December 2.
The Pirates improved to 2-0 with the road win, while the Wildcats fell to 1-1 after the result.

Bluffton trailed 15-13 after the first period, but spurted ahead for good with a 17-6 second stanza to lead 30-21 at intermission.
The teams battled to a 29-27 second half.
Blake Sommers led three Pirates in double figures with 14 points, 10 of which came in the first half.
Marek Donaldson sank three triples and netted 13 points. Terron Boblitt added two treys and 11 markers.
Wade Ginther contributed eight points, and Brody Sommers added all six of his points in the decisive second period. Five Pirates scored in the key stanza while holding Kenton to just three baskets.
Senior Gavin Payne topped Kenton with 17 points. He scored 11 points in a valiant fourth period comeback effort. Wildcat Steven Piper added nine markers.
The Pirates canned 14 deuces and splashed five treys. They converted 14 of 20 free throws (70 percent) and they outscored Kenton by 13 points at the charity stripe.
The Wildcats sank 20 two-point goals and drilled three trifectas. They made their only foul shot.
Kenton committed 20 costly turnovers, while Bluffton was guilty of 17 miscues. Twelve of the 20 Wildcat errors came in the first half.
The Pirates host perennial power Ottawa-Glandorf (0-0) Friday, December 8.
