Local activities come to a halt as winter weather turns nasty
No school, many businesses closed and Allen County on a Level 2 snow emergency, activities in the immediate Icon viewership area came to a halt on Groundhog's Day 2011.
With more than 2 inches of snow on the ground, the village is in a snow emergency situation. In it police are working with snow removal crews to get vehicles off the streets so that the snow plows can do their job.
Today (Feb. 2) weather conditions changed from yesterday. Snow fall changed to ice and sleet in late hours of Monday. When residents awoke this morning they found a crusty layer of ice on top of the snow that fell yesterday.
On the plus side, the temperature is in the high 20s today, higher than yesterday.
One victim to the strong winds and heavy ice was the awning at Edward Jones on Main Street. It fell to the street in the early morning hours.
