March 5th Landspout Tornado identified in Putnam County
UPDATED with statement from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
Preliminary information from the National Weather Service says that a brief landspout tornado occurred between Ottawa, OH and Leipsic, OH in Putnam County on Tuesday, March 5.
The overview notes, "The landspout was only on the ground for 1 minute, but did cause damage to a home on Road H5. The home sustained moderate loss of the roof and siding, and an attached garage also collapsed. Debris was scattered northeast of the property."

STATEMENT FROM PUTNAM COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

On March 5, 2024 at approximately 1442 hours, our office received several 911 calls in reference to a possible tornado that touched down in the area of 6142 Rd H-5 Leipsic, Ohio.
When the Leipsic police chief and Putnam County Sheriff's Deputies arrived, they found that a house was heavily damaged. Upon arrival, one of the homeowners was at the residence and advised there were no injuries.
The Nation Weather Service was contacted and advised this was an EF-0 tornado with winds up to 65 miles per hour. They also advised nothing was seen on radar.
School buses were called back to the schools. Students and staff did a shelter in place and were dismissed after given the all clear.
Assisting on this call were Gilboa Fire Department, Putnam County EMA, Leipsic Police Department, Pandora Police Department, Ottawa EMS.
