Pirate girls soccer dominates Bearcats

SPENCERVILLE __The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team blanked Spencerville 5-0 in the Northwest Conference opener on August 27.
Bluffton scored two goals in less than a minute early on and never was threatened.
The two-time defending league champion Pirate girls improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with the lopsided road win.
Spencerville fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NWC after the defeat.
Blair Utendorf started the scoring with a goal in the seventh minute off a Mya McDougle assist.
Pirate Aubrey Burkholder then tallied the second goal seconds later from another McDougle assist.
A Bearcat own goal in the 29th minute advanced the Pirate lead to 3-0 at halftime.
Phoebe Edwards-Leeper netted a goal 17 minutes into the second half off a Carly Wise pass.
Jaicelyn Morris found the back of the net for the final goal on a feed from Burkholder with 13 minutes remaining.
Bluffton fired 10 of its 21 shots on goal. The stingy Pirate defense did not allow Spencerville a single shot on goal in posting the shutout.
The Pirates visit Western Buckeye League foe Celina (4-1) Saturday, August 31.
