Pirate volleyball bests Pilots in straight sets

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton High School volleyball team defeated visiting Defiance Ayersville in straight sets during a non-league match Thursday evening.
The Pirates swept Ayersville 25-13, 25-16, 25-21.
The convincing home win improved the Pirate record to 6-1 this season. The Pilots drop to 4-2 after the loss.
Kendall Stackhouse paced the Bluffton hitters with 11 kills.
Ayla Grandey and Libby Hocanson each knocked down nine kills. Hocanson added a block.
Setter Gracie Yarnell passed out 33 assists. Karlie Lora contributed eight digs and one block.
Avery Talavinia mustered up a team-high 24 digs and dealt a pair of aces.
Vanessa Cross came up with 11 digs and served four aces.
Bluffton won the JV match 2-0 and captured the freshman tilt 2-1.
The Pirates host non-league foe Arlington (1-4) on Tuesday, September 3. They then entertain Elmwood on September 5.
