Pirates girls soccer shuts out Knights

CONVOY __ The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team dominated Northwest Conference rival Crestview 9-0 on Tuesday, September 3.
Pirate ace Aubrey Burkholder netted a hat trick with three goals for the second consecutive match.
Blair Utendorf tallied a pair of goals just a minute apart in the second half.
The Pirates improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the NWC after the lopsided win. Crestview dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the NWC with the defeat.
Jaicelyn Morris started the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute from Utendorf.
Burkholder tallied her first goal three minutes later off a Phoebe Edwards-Leeper assist to make it 2-0.
Jordan Schweingruber stretched the lead to 3-0 at halftime with an unassisted goal.
Burkholder netted goals in the 46th and 48th minutes to extend the margin to 5-0. Jenna Downey assisted on both scores.
Burkholder then fed Utendorf in the 49th minute to make it 6-0. A minute later, Utendorf struck on a Morris pass to balloon the lead to 7-0.
Keyrsten Kleman scored in the 55th minute from a Mya McDougle assist. Edwards-Leeper closed the scoring with a goal in the 59th minute off a dish from Nora Matthews.
Bluffton fired 22 of their 33 shots on goal at the Knights keeper, who saved 13.
Crestview managed just one shot on goal, which Kynzie Ewing saved to preserve the Pirate shutout.
Bluffton visits non-league foe Bath (2-3-1) Thursday, Sept. 5. Bath tied visiting Shawnee 2-2 in a WBL match Tuesday evening. Anna Rasor and Marlie Mason scored the goals for Bath.
