Jenera church hosts Shipwreck Remembrance 2024
Members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jenera will observe the annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sunday, September 15.
The church notes that the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. services "will give praise to the Lord for saving the lives of passengers on the 'Famous Dove' when it was shipwrecked off the east coast of the United States on September 17, 1831.
"During a terrible storm, the passengers prayed and sang hymns. The next morning, they saw that they were just off the coast of Virginia. They left the wrecked ship and safely reached land. They promised to observe September 17 in thanks to God, to the third and fourth generations, this being the 193rd year.
"Many of the passengers coming from Germany were the founders of Trinity and many fourth through seventh generation descendants are members today."
Sunday School and Bible classes for all ages will be held at 9:20 a.m. The 8:00 a.m. service is streamed live and can be found at www.tlcjenera.org/ It is also archived on that site.
The church at 301 North Main Street, Jenera, is handicapped accessible. More information can be found by calling 419-326-4685. All are welcome.
