Lewis E. Bassett was a farmer
Lewis E. Bassett, 101, passed away March 5, 2025, at Willow Ridge - Frieda House in Bluffton.
Lewis was born May 3, 1923 in Spencerville on Glen Oak Farm to Howard and Doris (Giffin) Bassett, who preceded him in death. On May 4, 1947 he married Imogene (Anderson) Bassett, who preceded him in death on November 3, 2017.
Lewis was a graduate of Beaverdam High School and was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren. He was a lifelong farmer who witnessed many agricultural developments, from horse-drawn equipment to fuel powered tractors. He also had a love of flying, earning his pilot license and flying his own plane. Above all, Lewis adored spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by four children, Dennis (Pat) Bassett of Columbus Grove, Nancy (Dennis) Hitchings of Dublin, David (Kim) Bassett of Lima, and Rosemary (Dan) Spearman of Wapakoneta; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, James Bassett of Lima, Kenneth (Mary Helen) Bassett of Lincoln, MA, and Thomas Bassett of Columbus.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two great-grandsons, Brady Bassett and Michael Brodman; and two siblings, William Bassett and Jeannie Skinner.
Services will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren with Pastor James Washington to officiate the service. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Monday, March 10, 2025, 10:00 am-12:00 p.m. at the church.
