Team “Battling for Bikes” from Bluffton Elementary School earned first place in the Spring Step It Up Challenge.
Team members Jaime Combs, Heidi Steiner and Ryan Dunlap won $1,500 for their school and averaged 822,945 steps.
"We are thrilled to finally have raised enough money for the BIKE Curriculum that Ryan will be purchasing," said team member Heidi Steiner. "It will be a class set of balance/peddle bikes and the lesson plans to teach kindergarten students to ride a 2 wheeler before they leave kindergarten. We are excited for the future bike riding lovers that Bluffton is going to have!"
The challenge is a national no-cost, four-week step program that promotes overall health and well-being for schools and the community. School administrators, educators and parents stepped up to model healthy habits, show leadership, and win money.
