Pirate softball falls to Panthers

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton High School girls softball team fell behind big early and lost 12-5 to non-conference foe McComb on Tuesday, April 15.
The Pirate girls fell to 1-4 overall with the loss. McComb improved to 2-4 after the win.
The Panthers built a 9-0 lead heading to the sixth inning and held on for the win.
Macy Schaadt stroked a two-run single for the Pirates. Tala Gipson had an RBI hit. Bluffton’s Peyton Worcester singled and scored a run.
Karleigh Davis singled and stole a base. Emma Green tallied two runs, while Danielle Cross scored a run and Camryn Fruchey singled.
Bluffton scored a run in the sixth to get on the scoreboard. McComb plated three runs in the top of the seventh. The Pirates pushed four runs across home plate in the home seventh to cut the final deficit to seven.
Bluffton was out-hit by McComb, 15-5. Panther Hannah Sherick hit a triple, three singles and drove in two runs.
Lily Sebring cranked a home run, hit two singles, drove in three runs and scored three times. Alivia Shaheen hit a double, singled and scored two runs while knocking in a pair.
Haley Ebright hit two singles and scored two runs. Dakota Shellenberger hit a double, singled and scored twice.
Panther Laney Rader pitched six innings of four-hit ball to earn the win. She allowed one earned run and struck out seven while walking four.
Pirate Haelee Rayle started and pitched the first 4.1 innings to get the loss. She allowed 11 hits and eight earned runs. She struck out four.
Worcester hurled the final 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs with a pair of walks.
The Pirates committed three errors, while McComb was guilty of five miscues. The Eagles stranded nine runners, and Bluffton left 11 on base.
