Pirate baseball blanked by AE

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School baseball team was shut out by local Northwest Conference rival Allen East 8-0 Tuesday, April 22.
The Pirates fell to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the NWC with the defeat
Meanwhile, AE improved to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in NWC play after the win.
The Mustangs built a 3-0 lead through six innings. AE then broke it open with five runs in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 8-0 margin.
Bluffton senior Quinn Eachus hurled the first four innings to take the loss. He allowed four hits and just one earned run, while striking out five and walking one.
Four hurlers out of the Pirate bullpen combined to allow five earned runs on 10 hits over the final three innings.
The Pirates were out-hit by the Mustangs, 11-3.
Nathan Speicher doubled twice to pace the Pirate offense. Dylan Painter singled for the other Bluffton hit.
Bluffton drew three walks and allowed two unearned runs with four errors.
The Pirates play at Ft. Jennings (6-4) Wednesday, and visit league foe Crestview (5-5, 3-1 NWC) Thursday.
They are slated to play at Cory-Rawson (1-6) Friday.
