MAY 23 MEDIA RELEASE__This summer, unlock a world of adventure with the Bluffton Public Library’s 2025 Summer Reading Program, “Color Our World” starting June 2! Summer Read is open to all ages. By joining in on the summer fun, you’ll earn tickets for prize drawings and have opportunities to connect with others in the community! Reading logs will be available for children and teens when they register, and adults can enter to win prizes with every 3 books read. So come on in and get the whole family registered and involved! 

LEGO Library Showcase is ON: The library is always excited to be showing local residents’ LEGO builds. The LEGO builds can be sets or your own creations. Register at the Main Desk and this event is open to ALL ages. Bring in your builds now and the library will display the builds through July in conjunction with our 2025 Summer Read program “Color Our World”. Pick up will be August 4-9.  

Verne’s Paint Palette Scavenger Hunt: Every week during Summer Read Verne will be adding a new color to his palette. Can you find him in the library? When you find him, color in your bookmark and pick out a little prize! 

Duckie Cosplay Contest (R): Starts Mon., June 2 for Grades 6-12. Select your duck and make it a costume (we have a limited supply!). Return your decorated duck by June 30th. The Duckies will be on display in the Youth Services Display Case. During the month of July, vote for your favorite Duckie and the winner(s) will be revealed Thu., July 31st at 4:30 p.m. during the Summer Read finale! 

Noon Book Group (R) meets Wed., June 4. The group will discuss Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. The book that will be discussed July 2 is The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. Register in person and pick up the book or online and read it digitally on your own. 

Noon Book Group (R) will meet Thu., June 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the library with the same monthly title as Noon Book Group. For the months of May, June, August and September, this group will be held at this evening time slot the Thursday evening after Noon Book Group. Register in person and pick up the book or online and read it digitally on your own.

Family Storytime (Birth-Pre-K): Begins Wed. June 4 - July 30 at 10:00 a.m. No registration necessary this summer! All Storytimes will be about reading, singing, playing, and socializing with peers. Themes this year include: Emotions, Let’s Go Camping, Fantastic Fish, Colors All Around … and so many more! 

Special Stuffed Animal Sleepover Storytime! Wed., June 4 at 10 a.m. Bring your stuffed animal to the library for Family Storytime, and pick them up the next day, along with photos of what mischief they got into the previous night. They will even get their own library card! 

StART @ the Library (R): Activities geared for Grades K-2, and for Grades 3-5. This series will run through the summer. Check the calendar for dates and themes and register your child for each session separately, in person or online. 

Playgroup is held most Fridays at 10 a.m. Make a playdate and the library will provide the space and toys! 

Funny Debates (Grades 6-12) (R): Text your friends and meet up at the library on Fri., June 6 at 1:00 p.m. to engage in funny debates such as, “Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck?” Snacks will be included. Register in person or online. 

Build A Book (Grades 3-5) (R): Write your own story and create your very own book on Mon., June 9 at 2:00 p.m.! Register in person or online. 

“Lighthouse” Acrylic Paint Class with Bluffton Art Company (R)($) will be held Tue., June 10 at 6:00 p.m. Register in person or online and come to the program prepared to create your own acrylic painting. Cost is $15 per person and will be taken at the door (cash only, please). Open to adults, and teens and children with an accompanying 

adult. 

Summer Dance Party (Grades 6-12) (R) will be held Wed., June 11 at 3:00 p.m. Dance to your own (library-friendly) music and challenge your friends in Just Dance! Snacks will be provided. Register in person or online. 

Mobile Health Clinic: The next Mobile Health Clinic will be held on Thu., June 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All services are provided by individuals with the Ohio Northern University Healthwise program. This clinic includes free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol (please fast for 12 hours to participate in cholesterol or blood sugar screening.) Participants may speak with ONU Healthwise students and staff about their results or concerns, and even receive referrals to area doctors. 

*Note: Mobile Health Clinic Weather Policy: If the Bluffton or Ada school district have a weather delay or cancellation, Mobile Health Clinic will be cancelled that day. 

Watercolor Workshop: Cat (R)($) will be held Thu., June 12 from 2:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. Local artist Jeanne Crumrine will teach on the lower level of the library. Walk away with your own watercolor piece of art, complete with mat! There is a $10 supply fee at the door (cash

only please). Register in person or online. Open to adults, and teens and children with an accompanying adult. 

Read with a Dog (Pet Partners) (R): Our furry friends are back! This is a great way to earn some reading time with a furry canine friend on Fri., June 13 at 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  Register in person or online if interested in reading with a Pet Partners Dog during this time! Open to children/teens (with a participating adult). 

“ABCs of Nature” Walk at Motter Metro Park with Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District (R) will be held on Tue., June 17 at 10:00 a.m. Meet at the Motter Metro Park and join a Naturalist in the search for letters formed in nature. Learn about nature photography and take pictures of what you find! Children’s cameras will be provided as we hike in the park to document the ABCs of nature! Game Day (Grades 6-12) (R) is scheduled for Wed., June 18 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. This is a time to gather and play card and board games and hang out with friends! Snacks are included. Register in person or online. 

Plant Swap with Activate Allen County: Join us for our 3rd Bluffton Plant Swap! on Tue., June 24 at 6:00 p.m. This year, we will be swapping both house plants and outdoor perennials, so come with either or both. A plant swap is where people bring an outdoor perennial plant (in good condition) or a house plant (or both) to exchange (“swap”) it for a new variety of plant. It’s a great way to expand your plant collection & meet friends! Numbers will be assigned as participants arrive & everyone can go home with a new plant for their collection. Edible Adventures: a trip for your tastebuds (R): Thurs., June 26 at 1:00-3:00 p.m. for Grades 3-6 and 3:00-5:00 p.m. for Grades 7-12 : Hey Tweens! the library is having another summer book tasting. Come, relax and have some fun looking at new books all the while enjoying a colorful palette of snacks. Register in person or online and note any allergies. 

Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held at the library June 26-28 in the library’s lower level. Sale proceeds benefit library services, materials, and programs. Your purchase at this sale goes to enriching Bluffton and the surrounding community. 

Times are scheduled as follows: 

● Thu., June 26: 9:30 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. 

● Fri., June 27: 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. 

● Sat., June 28: 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Hummin' & Strummin' Song Circle will be held Mondays, June 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 at 6:00 p.m. This is a relaxed, song-circle style music session and anyone is welcome to join or listen in. Bring your acoustic instrument, voice, or listening ears! 

Open Chess on Tuesdays! The library has an area designated on the Main Floor for open chess from 5:30-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday the library is open. Bring your own board or use one of the library’s! All ages are welcome! Stay tuned for Giant Chess coming in July! 

Don’t forget to check out the Display Case and look at ALL the possible Summer Read prizes you could win for your age group. 

Bluffton Public Library will be closed Thursday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. Due dates will be adjusted accordingly.
