Moderate icing possible Thursday night and early Friday
Moderate icing possible for the northern AEP Ohio area is predicted Thursday night and early Friday.
A developing winter storm over the southern plains on Thursday will track into the Ohio Valley by Friday.
While its still to early to pin down exact amounts preliminary information suggests the possibility of moderate freezing rain accumulations (perhaps 1/4" - 1/2" ice) in a band from Muncie, Ind., to Canton.
On Wednesday evening, according to AEP's forecast, it appears the main icing threat is north of Columbus.
Temperatures are expected to fall to near freezing as the heaviest precipitation moves into Indiana and northern Ohio Thursday night, bringing this threat of freezing rain.
Temperatures will continue to cool into Friday morning, ultimately allowing for a change over to sleet and snow.
Exact temperatures and timing will be critical in this storm. Ice amounts could decrease or increase depending on how soon temperatures fall below freezing and when the change-over to sleet and snow occurs.
This is an initial threat assessment and AEP meteorologists will refine the forecast as more information becomes available on Thursday morning.
