Pirate girls soccer edged by Bath

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School girls soccer team lost a tight non-league match 2-1 to unbeaten WBL foe Bath on Thursday, September 4 at Steinmetz Field.
The Pirate girls dropped to 2-4 with the defeat, while Bath improved to 4-0-1 after the road win.
Bluffton’s Nora Matthews scored in the 28th minute to seize a 1-0 lead at halftime. Willow Derstine earned the assist on the Pirate goal.
Bath tied it 1-1 on a goal by Marlie Mason in the 46th minute. Alyx Liles gave the visitors the lead by netting the eventual winning goal in the 53rd minute.
Bluffton fired four of its five shots on goal. Bath put 11 of its 17 shots on target. Pirate keeper Kynzie Ewing made nine saves, while Wildkitten keeper Emily Vreeland was credited with three stops.
The Pirate girl junior varsity won, 3-0.
Bluffton visits Bowling Green Saturday to conclude a stretch of four matches in five days.
