Bluffton Lions Club update, October 2025
School eye screenings indicate 18 students may need follow-up care
FROM BLC NEWSLETTER__Bluffton Lions Club activities in October 2025 included eye screening at local schools from September 22-October 3. Volunteers screened 249 children with 18 fails. A printout of the screening is sent to the parents.
Lions Laura Dagani, Ed Yeager, Scott Hoff, Don Burris, Eugene McCall, Dick McGarrity, Jan Emmert, Dennis Morrison and Barbara Plaugher were the screeners.
Roadside Clean-up on October 11. Lion Andrew Rager coordinated this activity with Lions Rager, Mike Minnig, Ron Lora, Brigette Hoff, Jackie Bourassa, Mark Bourassa and Kiley Rutzler and son also participated.
John Warner, CEO of the Mennonite Home & the Brethren Retirement Community, provided a program explaining the sequence from consulting, full management to affiliation of the Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
November 4 - Club meeting 6:30 p.m. at Bluffton Town Hall. Board to meet at 6:00 p.m.. The LEO club will be presenting this evening.
November 8 - Cabinet meeting at Town Hall, 9:30 a.m..
November 18 - Club meeting at noon at Town Hall. A speaker from the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio will be presenting. Winners from the Peace Poster contest will be recognized.
November 29 - Blaze of Lights Parade and all-inclusive playground project.
BOARD MEETING REPORT
Recycling of cell phones will end. Ink cartridges, hearing aids and glasses will continue to be recycled.
OCTOBER 7 CLUB MEETING
This was a membership meeting conducted by President Lion Jackie Bourassa. The theme for this year is Spreading Joy through Service. We continue to work towards the global causes of pediatric cancer, diabetes, disaster, environment, hunger, vision, youth and humanitarian efforts. Mental health and well-being is also supported by the global causes. A review of the all-inclusive playground in Legacy Park was provided. Sponsorship opportunities were reviewed. Pledges over $236,000 have been received.
PATHWAY COUNT
Lion Dick McGarrity coordinated the September Pathway Count. Those donating two hours each were Lions Ron Lora, Clair Winebar, Mitch Kingsley, Jesse Blackburn, Patty Navin, Don Hostetler, Andrew Armstrong, Denny Morrison, Mark Bourassa, Jackie Bourassa, Jan Emmert, Laura Dagani and Dick McGarrity.
