BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School girls basketball team tipped off its 2025-26 season with a 64-23 blowout win over visiting local foe Cory-Rawson in the opening round of the annual McDonald’s Holiday tournament on Friday, November 21.
Host Bluffton raced to a 27-11 lead at halftime and poured it on in the second half by a 37-12 margin.
The Pirates (1-0) will face Arlington (1-0) in the championship game Saturday at approximately 6:30 p.m. Bluffton is seeking its first holiday tournament crown since defeating Allen East 55-52 in the 2022 finals.
Arlington defeated two-time defending tournament champion Allen East 45-41 in the first semifinal Friday evening.
Senior Blair Utendorf and junior Gracie Warren each scored 10 points to lead nine Pirates in the scoring column. Warren netted seven markers in the opening stanza as the hosts ran out to a 17-6 lead and were never threatened.
Sophomore Taylin Goldman scored seven points in the third period as the Pirates smoked the Hornets 22-6 to build a 49-17 cushion. A 15-6 fourth stanza provided the final winning margin of 41.
Goldman finished with nine markers, while junior Greta Myers tallied eight points. Sophomore Maelee Miller scored seven. Senior Lauren Dearth and junior Avery Hobensack each added five markers.
Pirate sophomores Carli Wise and Peyton Worcester tallied four points apiece to the balanced Bluffton offensive attack.
Duffman led C-R with seven points. Cory made just seven baskets, including one triple. The Hornets sank eight of 16 free throws (50 percent).
Bluffton knocked down 23 deuces and three trifectas. The Pirate girls canned nine of 15 free throws (60 percent).
