BVHS auxiliary scholarship application period opens
MEDIA RELEASE__The Blanchard Valley Health System Auxiliary is now accepting scholarship applications from students in the Hancock County area who plan to pursue a career in a health-related field. Applications are available online.
The Auxiliary Scholarship was established to help local high school seniors offset the cost of education as they prepare for professions in healthcare. Franki Hatten, volunteer services manager, said eligible career paths can include roles such as dental hygienist, nurse, physician, or other healthcare specialties.
Ten students will each receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship this year. Funding for the scholarships comes from annual Auxiliary membership dues.
“Our volunteers are deeply committed to supporting both our hospitals and our community,” Hatten said. “Through their efforts operating the gift shops at Blanchard Valley Hospital and Bluffton Hospital, as well as the Nearly New Shop, they make meaningful contributions. Establishing this scholarship was a special way for members to extend that impact directly to local students.”
Hatten added that reviewing applications is a highlight for committee members each year.
“The selection team looks forward to learning about each student’s goals and motivation for entering healthcare,” she said. “Reading about their aspirations and dedication to serving others is inspiring and reminds us why programs like this matter.”
Beyond helping individual recipients, the scholarship also supports the future of healthcare in the region.
“Encouraging students to pursue healthcare careers benefits our entire community,” Hatten said. “We’re proud that some past recipients have returned to BVHS as professionals, and we hope many more will choose to build their careers close to home.”
To qualify, applicants must be a graduating high school senior attending a Hancock County school and/or a health professions student at Millstream Career Center. Completed applications must be submitted online by March 31, 2026.
