MASON__The Bluffton senior duo of Grady Coonfare and Isaiah Kohli advanced to the quarterfinals of the Ohio Div. II state tennis doubles tournament at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason on Thursday, May 28.
The Pirate tandem upset one of the four top-seeded tandems in their opening round of 16 match Thursday, a difficult draw after coming in fourth at the Port Clinton Northwest 4 district tournament.
Coonfare and Kohli defeated the Circleville Logan Elm duo of senior Mason Wolfe and junior Zach Speas by a score of 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the final eight.
In the quarterfinals, the Pirate duo lost 6-1, 6-2 to the team of Sam Tokmazeysky and Atreya Bhatt to be eliminated.
“They had a great run to finish in the top eight in the state for Div. II,” said Pirate head coach Dave Roby.
