Alice June (Hochstettler) Kliewer worked at Grace Bible Institute

Alice June (Hochstettler) Kliewer was born June 21, 1934, to Andrew A and Esther (Zimmerman) Hochstettler at their farmhouse near Bluffton, Ohio. She entered into the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ on June 23, 2026, in Henderson, Nebraska.

June trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord in 1941 at the age of 7, at a children’s meeting during their Church Bible Conference in Bluffton, Ohio. She was baptized at the age of 14 upon her profession of faith at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, Bluffton, Ohio.

During her senior year of high school, June became seriously ill from seizures and lost control of her right side for a time. As a result, she missed a year of school but graduated the next year, in 1952, as salutatorian of her class. Her first job after high school was working for Leland Gerber, a local photographer. June attended Grace Bible Institute (Grace University) in Omaha, Nebraska in the fall of 1952, graduating in 1955 with a degree in Christian Education. After graduating from Grace, she continued at Grace, working in the Business Office, later in the Alumni Office and finally in the college library for the next 21 ½ years. During this time, she was a faithful member of Faith Bible Church in Omaha.

In 1987, June was introduced to John R Kliewer through a mutual friend, Dr. Harold Burkholder. They were married on March 19, 1988 and lived in Henderson, Nebraska, where they served the Lord together at Crossroads Bible Fellowship for the next 29 years and then another 9 years after John passed away. When June married John, she became the stepmother and grandmother to a growing family that would eventually number over 100 family members. June enjoyed crocheting, playing the piano and being involved with the Church Ladies Fellowship and Bible Studies, as well as teaching children’s Sunday School class, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a quiet, faithful servant of her Lord and maintained that quiet, cheerful attitude until she entered into His presence.

She is survived by her brother Dale (Nancy) Hochstettler of Midland, Michigan, 3 nieces and 4 nephews. Also surviving her are step-children: Ferd (Lene) Wiens, of Moundridge, KS; Susan (Dale) Janzen, of Henderson, Nebraska; Joyce Wall, of Aurora, Nebraska; Grace (Les) Zook, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Kathy (Blake) Matousek, of Henderson, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were husband John R Kliewer; parents Andrew and Esther Hochstettler; sister and brother-in-law Wanda and Howard Landes; sister-in-law Janet Hochstettler; step-daughter Luann (Kliewer) Vaught; and step-son-in-law, Marcellus Wall.
