Marjorie Jean (Reams) Montgomery was a homemaker
Marjorie Jean (Reams) Montgomery, 102, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.
She was born in Bluffton to Charles "Roy" and Edith (Reddick) Reams on Friday, June 13, 1924. She married Charles W. Montgomery on January 26, 1943, at Camp Perry in Perrysburg ahead of Charles' deployment to WWII. They were married over 72 years, until his death on November 23, 2016.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Jean Ann Nonnamaker of Bluffton, June (Darrell) Kohlhorst of Oak Ridge, TN, and Janice (Donald) Dunham of Imperial, MO; daughter-in-law, Saundra Montgomery of Bluffton; twelve grandchildren, Monica (Dennis) vonStein of Rawson, Jill (Mike) Woodward of Bluffon, Gina (Kevin) Burkholder of McComb, Dusten (Michelle) Kohlhorst of Columbus, Drew (Scott) Kohlhorst of Memphis, TN, Charles "Ed" (Angie) Montgomery of Bluffton, Nathan (Josie) Dunham of Suisun City, CA, Sarah Montgomery of Dunkirk, Ashley (Jay) Allsbrook of Portsmouth, VA, Benjamin (Kristi) Montgomery of Bluffton, Cody Nonnamaker of Bluffton, and Wyatt Montgomery of Detroit, MI; twenty five great-grandchildren; twenty one great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lilyette Sue Smith of Huston, TX.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her son, Charles D. Montgomery; grandson, Darren Kohlhorst; son-in-law, Ralph Nonnamaker; and sister and brother-in-law, June and Clyde Klingler.
Marjorie was a graduate of Bluffton High School. She was a homemaker on the farm where they raised their family. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing and even passed on her skills to some of her granddaughters.
When Marjorie was 9 years old, she, her sister and a friend of theirs were all playing in a yard in downtown Bluffton. They ran to the street when they heard commotion, just in time to see the Dillinger Gang run out of the Bluffton Bank. Their parents told them not to tell anyone; they didn't want any reporters to bother their families.
Services will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services - Bluffton with William Herr to officiate the service. Burial will be in Thompson Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 26, 2026, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or Putnam County Homecare & Hospice.
