Robert “Bob” Lee Sweigart, 85, passed away peacefully with his wife at his bedside on September 18, 2026 at his residence. He was born on January 29, 1941 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Walter and Cora Estella (Sheets) Sweigart. On August 23, 1964, he married Janice V. McKenzie in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

Bob graduated from Lancaster High School in 1959 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1964 including eighteen months in Korea. His career started at BLH in Lima followed by Ex-Cello in Bluffton and then retired after thirty years at Clyde/Findlay Whirlpool in 2002. Bob enjoyed his motorcycle all of his adult life. In retirement, he kept his mind sharp by completing word searches and jigsaw puzzles and also enjoyed listening to southern gospel music especially the Gaithers. 

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice; three children, Rose Putnam of Arlington, Robert (Anne) Sweigart of Tennessee and Rodney (Shawn Fisher) of Dunkirk and older twin sisters, Theda and Freda Sweigart of Lancaster. He enjoyed being called “PaPaw” by his grandchildren, Kayla (Kevin) Balderson, Derek (Allie) Putnam, Lisa (Matt Tatum) Oxley, Adam (Christian Anderson) Sweigart and Byrce and Dayja Olive. Bob also is survived by his step-grandchildren, Dane (Leona) Riker, Danielle (Daric Holleger) Ireland, Derek Riker and Deanna Riker; his great grandchildren, Faith McElfresh, Leeland and Harper Balderson, William, Tobias and Mikayla Sweigart, Julian and Gabriel Putnam, Jack and Jacob Tatum; his step great-grandchildren, Tina White, Dakota Holleger, Abigail (Joseph) Finchman Schmutz, Ahlora Riker, Cordelia and Liam Ireland and Dawon Riker. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Alex Sweigart.

Bob’s service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services – Bluffton with Pastor Sam Wireman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery in Ada. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
