MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton Presbyterian Church invites the community to join in a Socktober drive throughout October and provide new socks for individuals and families who need them most. Donations of new socks in any size and style are welcome, from socks for young children to socks for adults. 

Socks collected through the drive will be distributed through the Bluffton Community Assistance Program and Family Promise of Northwestern Ohio, which serves families experiencing homelessness in Lima-Allen County and beyond.

Why socks?
Homeless shelters and social service agencies request socks often, yet donation efforts often overlook them. As colder weather approaches, the need grows even greater. New socks offer warmth, comfort and dignity while keeping feet dry and healthy.

How to help

• Donate new socks: Drop off donations anytime in the first-floor stairwell at Bluffton Town Hall or on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bluffton Presbyterian Church gazebo.
• Make a financial contribution: Monetary donations will be used to buy additional socks and cold-weather clothing for distribution. Make checks out to Bluffton Presbyterian Church (with “Socktober” in the memo line) and mail to PO Box 149, Bluffton, OH 45817. Donations can also be made online through the church’s secure giving page: blufftonpc.org/give
• Spread the word: Encourage friends, family members, churches, businesses and community organizations to participate.

Beginnings of Socktober
Socktober began in 2011 in Arkansas as a community project to support people experiencing homelessness. Since then, it has grown into an international movement, inspiring people of all ages to organize sock drives and show how small acts of generosity can have a meaningful impact.
