AT&T tower (sledding hill) sold in September 2026
By Paula Pyzik Scott
The word on the street is that a spot known for its sledding hill has been sold and is being decommissioned. Some details are on the Hancock County Auditor's website:
15821 COUNTY RD 16 - 9/24/2026 - $115,000 - Other Commercial (miscellaneous commercial
structures) - From OHIO TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH COMPANY to AMES TOWER
GROUP LLC
But why is there a hill there among the only slightly undulating fields of corn and soybeans? The site is an obsolete AT&T long lines main station for long-distance and Department of Defense communications.
Long lines stations are the subject of considerable hobbyist interest. The website https://long-lines.net/places-routes/BlufftonOH/index.html says the Bluffton site includes a "hardened underground building."
And that is just scratching the surface on this topic.
