Matt Brown and Bluffton High School Fiddlers perform in town hall April 1
Banjo and guitar player and singer Matt Brown will perform in concert at 7 p.m., Friday, April 1, in the third floor of the Bluffton town hall in the Town Hall Concert Series, according to Wendy Chappell-Dick, of the village cultural affairs committee.
Opening for Brown are the Bluffton High School Fiddlers, an after- school club.
The performance is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted.
"Matt Brown is among a growing group of younger performers who will help to keep folk traditions alive because they've clearly fallen in love with the music and are busily applying their considerable skills to spreading it near and far," says Jessica D. Hayden, executive director of the Susquehanna Folk Music Society.
While much of his repertoire comes from the Appalachian south, he also shared the songs of his home state, Pennsylvania. He entertains audiences with a sense of humor and sound that is authentic and inventive. His childhood included fiddlers' conventions, square dances, and string band rehearsals in the living room.
Brown has performed at a variety of venues including The Kennedy Center, Club Passim, the Ozark Folk Center, the University of Kentucky, the Annenberg Center, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival and The Wheatland Music Festival.
Brown has been on staff at The Colorado Suzuki Institute, The Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp, The Swannanoa Gathering and Southern Week at Ashokan, and has taught workshops at Berklee College of Music, the Old Town School of Folk Music and Morehead State University.
In addition to being a performer and a teacher, he is also a producer, studio musician, and a partner in 5-String Productions, an independent record label specializing in acoustic music. He is featured on the cover of the Spring 2010 issue of Fiddler Magazine.
