2011 village finances: "So far, so good"
Except for the price of gas, Village of Bluffton finances appear to be on target so far this year. That's a quick overview of the first quarter of 2011 as reported to Bluffton council by Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer.
Kindle gave her assessment at Monday's council meeting. She said that revenue and expenses are "where we expected them to be." She continued: "The budget is holding up except for the price of gas." She indicated that if the price continued to increase this summer the village could face some tough decisions.
By the next council meeting the village will have a better handle on its income tax situation since April 18 (this year's tax deadline) is next Monday.
One village expense that may be a surprise is that the EMS building appears to have racked up a higher heating bill this winter that did the town hall.
Council heard a brief personnel committee report. The committee reviewed the status of Ohio Senate Bill 5. The impact of that bill may be minimal this year, however 2012 may be a different situation.
Mayor Fred Rodabaugh told council that he and David Steiner, council member, plan to meet with the Richland Township trustees on Tuesday evening. The discussions will center on the Dixie Highway annexation issue.
