A couple dozen volunteers from the UAW 1219 ramp crew made life a lot more comfortable for a Bluffton family.
The crew constructed a wheelchair ramp free of charge on Thursday, June 30.
The ramp crew consists of retired Ford Motor Company employees of Lima. The members volunteer their time to construct wheelchair ramps for persons in the Lima and surrounding area.
The Bluffton ramp is at 307 S. Main St., at the home of Brenda and Steve Halle. Brenda has a brain disorder and can't stand. Steve has had a brain cancer operation and is in a wheel chair.
The Halle's were nearly without words when thanking the UAW 1219 volunteers for their work. The ramp project took about two hours on Thursday morning.
The Halle's daughter, Rebekah Paralta, takes care of her parents.
Mark Ammon of the ramp crew says that last year the crew created 44 ramps. The Bluffton ramp is number 30 for 2011. The crew consists entirely of volunteer UAW members. Persons interested in donating to the crew's ramp project fund may do so by sending donations to Mark Ammon, Ford Motor Co., 1155 Bible Road, Lima. The phone number is 419-226-7189.
