Margaret G. Steiner 1914-2009
Margaret Grace Steiner, 95, a lifelong resident of Bluffton, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton, where she was a resident.
She was born Oct. 23, 1914, in Bluffton to Fred and Bertha (Althaus) Hahn. She graduated from Bluffton High school in 1933. In 1937 she married Nelson F. Steiner and he died in 2003.
Mrs. Steiner was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bluffton, where she served on several commissions and was a delegate at the district level. For many years she served as the church historian. She was a charter member of the Lima Symphony Orchestra as a cellist. She was a member of the First Families of Allen County, She was a member of the Bluffton Inter-Church Board's task force that created the Bluffton Senior. Citizens Association. She served as a Democrat Party poll worker on the Allen County Board of Elections for over 25 years. She was a member of the Progressive Mothers Club of Bluffton. As a horticulturalist, she served as a jurist and exhibitor in several flower shows in northwestern Ohio.
She was a licensed practical nurse and worked for over 25 years at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
She is survived by three children, Mary Margaret (Guy) Lord, Shorewood, Wisc., Rudolf (Cheryl) Steiner, Homewood, Ill., and Fred (Mary) Steiner, Bluffton. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceeding her in death was a son, Norman, and brothers William, Lester and Howard, and a sister, Florence Eicheldberger.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Bluffton. A memorial service is planned at a later date. Arrangements are handled by Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton chapel.
