George Lehman talks about Amish business practices
George Lehman, Howard Raid professor of business, will present "Changing Business Practices Among the Amish of Adams County, Indiana," at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, in Stuzman Lecture Hall in Centennial hall, as part of Bluffton University's Friday Colloquium Series. The event is free and open to the public.
Lehman grew up in Adams County and has always been fascinated by the changes in that community over years.
"The Adams County Amish have never been a commercial attraction and their practice of vocation is quite different from most other Amish groups," said Lehman. "I see the Amish in Berne as slowly developing the kinds of cooperative structures that have enabled the Amish in the East and in Holmes County, Ohio, and Wayne County, Ohio, to flourish." Lehman's research has been a combination of reading and interviewing a number of Amish business people as well as others in the area.
