English Lutheran hosts prayer service for a dry community
On Sunday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. a prayer service will be held at English Lutheran Church simultaneously with one at Living Word Lutheran Church in Buda, Texas, according to Rev. Kevin Mohr, pastor of English Lutheran.
Nearly the entire state of Texas and most of Oklahoma is experiencing the worst prolonged drought in recorded history for that area. The community of Buda, Texas is gathering together at Living Word Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. ( 8 p.m. Eastern Time) to pray for an end to the drought.
Living Word, pastored by the Rev. Lori Ruge-Jones, is the church home of former Bluffton resident Rebekah (Mohr) Wieting, daughter of Deborah and the Rev. Kevin Mohr, pastor at English Lutheran here in Bluffton.
In support of the people of Texas and Oklahoma, and mindful also of the many natural disasters to hit our nation this year, the pastor and council of English Lutheran invite the Bluffton community to join us in a prayer service to be held at the same relative time as the service in Buda.
"We are looking into the possibility of having a Skype connection between the two congregations during the service," said Rev. Mohr.
English Lutheran Church is located at 111 Grove Street (the corner of Grove and Jackson Streets).
"If you are unable to attend the service, please pause for a moment at 8 p.m. on Sunday to offer up your own prayers for the region affected by the drought," said Rev. Mohr.
