Attention teens who like to write! The library has something for you
Attention teens who like to write! To celebrate Teen Read Week, which will take place Oct. 16-22, the Bluffton Public Library has an exciting writing opportunity for you.
If you are a fan of a popular teen fiction series and would love to change something about the series, now is your chance. If you think Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince would have been a better story if Dumbledore lived, write it! Submit an original short story 2,000 words or less with popular, "borrowed" characters for a chance to win fantastic books and prizes, including a copy of Inheritance by Christopher Paolini.
Winning fan fiction stories will be published on the library's website, www.blufftonpubliclibrary.org, and on the Bluffton Icon website at www.blufftonicon.com.
Teens age 12-19 may enter up to three unique stories for the contest. Entries must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman font and may be single- or double-spaced. Stories must also be based on a popular teen fiction series (including some or all characters, partial plot, etc.).
If you are unsure what qualifies, please ask Rikki Unterbrink in the Youth Services Department. Be creative with your story! You might even introduce new characters or write a "cross-over" fan fiction with characters from two or more series. See www.fanfiction.net for ideas and sample fan fiction.
For submission guidelines and entry form, please visit the library front desk or teen area. All submissions are due by 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Winners will be announced at the Inheritance book release party on Nov. 8.
