Expect strong, possibly damaging winds tonight
Scattered damaging wind gusts of 50-60 mph
An AEP Weather Alert: Unseasonably warm, moist air will arrive in AEP’s East Utilities today ahead of an advancing cold front.
This will most likely result in a broken line of strong-severe thunderstorms crossing the utilities this evening into tonight. The winds aloft will be exceptionally strong…making it probable that some of the thunderstorms will mix down damaging wind gusts.
While widespread wind damage is not expected in most areas...pockets of 50-60 mph gusts are certainly possible for I&M Power, AEP Ohio, KY Power, and APCo.
This coverage typically leads to district-level utility problems. Nevertheless...one or two districts could see a swath of more concentrated wind damage, although it is impossible to pinpoint which ones would be impacted this far in advance.
